In a significant development, Dogo Gide, a notorious leader among bandits in the North West region of Nigeria, has met his end. Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide, shared this news through his official X channel early Wednesday.
Ahmad disclosed that Gide succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a clash with troops from Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) of the Nigerian Army. Expressing relief, Ahmad remarked, "Waking up to the news of Dogo Gide's killing is truly heartening. The infamous leader of the bandits met his fate due to injuries inflicted during a face-off with OPHD forces."
Gide, infamous for his reign of terror, has been linked to numerous incidents of abduction, resulting in the loss of lives and displacement of countless individuals in the North. Reports indicate that his operational base frequently shifted across states in the North West, notably Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina.
This news comes after a previous encounter on October 30, 2023, where Gide narrowly escaped capture and death during a fierce confrontation with Nigerian troops in Zamfara State. During this operation, troops raided Gide's stronghold at Yau Sarkin Pawa, conducting a thorough search and demolishing the premises.
Among the discoveries were a tailoring workshop dedicated to producing military and security uniforms, along with confiscated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a makeshift medical facility presumably used for treating wounded militants, and the confiscation of operational motorcycles and sewing machines, among other items.
