Nigerian Singer Chike Calls Marriage A Stupid Step

 Singer Chike

Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has sparked reactions after describing marriage as "a stupid step" and stating that he has no plans to settle down anytime soon.

The "Boo of the Booless" crooner made the controversial statement during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on the WithChude podcast. He opened up about his personal views on love, marriage, and the sacrifices he made before achieving fame.

Chike’s Bold Stance on Marriage

During the candid conversation, the 32-year-old artist didn’t hold back, saying:

"In fact, I think it’s a stupid step to get married. That’s my opinion. I’m not saying this applies to actors, but if you’re a music artiste, especially if your career is built around women being attracted to you, it starts to look like a crime. That same attraction cannot continue."

Despite being known for his romantic love songs, Chike admitted that his happiness is tied more to financial success than relationships.

"For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even carnal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money."

Chike’s Journey into Music & Early Struggles

The "Roju" singer revealed that he never initially planned to pursue music professionally.

"I would say maybe right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, to be honest, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me."

Before his breakthrough, Chike faced financial difficulties and even ventured into acting for two years to make ends meet.

Chike’s Past Comments on Love & Vulnerability

This isn’t the first time Chike has made headlines for his unconventional views on romance. In 2022, he revealed that he had never said "I love you" to anyone because the phrase made him feel too vulnerable.

"I get that feeling that if I say it, my bolz would shrink and disappear. Happy I get to sing it though."

Public Reactions to Chike’s Marriage Remarks

His latest comments have stirred mixed reactions online:

  • Supporters argue that he’s being honest about the challenges of balancing fame and relationships.

  • Critics say his stance is extreme and undermines the value of marriage.
